Meet The Maker: Kara, AKA "Boho Berry"
A decluttered mind is as important as a decluttered workspace. Meet Kara, AKA "Boho Berry", who is mastering both. We wouldn't be surprised if you already know who she is!
Read on to learn more about Kara, her creative process, and why getting organized with the WorkBox 3.0 has been a game changer.
Who is Boho Berry?
Kara is most well known for her creative take on Bullet Journaling. If you're unfamiliar, the Bullet Journal is a customizable organization system created by Ryder Carroll to declutter the mind and track where time and energy is being spent. Kara shares her bullet journaling tips and insights daily with her thousands of loyal followers.
While Kara enjoys sharing her skills, what she loves most is inspiring others to achieve their goals. The Boho Berry Blog has become a space where she can write about the topics most near and dear to her heart: mindfulness, meditation, goal-setting, and personal development.
How would you describe Bullet Journaling to someone who has never heard of it before?
Bullet Journaling is essentially a DIY planner. Every Bullet Journal out there is unique and customized to its owner. It's a way to manage your task list, plan for the future, and grow yourself as a person one page at a time.
What about the Bullet Journal system initially appealed to you?
The biggest draw of the Bullet Journal system for me was its flexibility. I had tried SO many planners throughout the years, and none of them ever quite worked for me. Being able to create my own planning pages every day was just what I needed.
How did you develop your style?
I started out being very true to the original Bullet Journal system, but little by little I started branching out and developing my own style. I essentially analyzed what was working/not working each week and made small tweaks until I was happy with my system.
Have you always considered yourself a creative person?
Creative? Yes. Artistic? Not necessarily. I've always enjoyed crafting... making things with my hands. I've experimented with a TON of different outlets for my creativity over the years. I love to knit and crochet, spin yarn, and make jewelry. It wasn't until I found the Bullet Journal system that I really fell in love with putting pen to paper. The Bullet Journal opened up a whole new world of creativity inside me that I never knew was there before. I'm now obsessed with planning and improving my handwriting and hand lettering skills.
Beyond Bullet Journaling, what are some of your other creative interests?
Definitely knitting and crochet. I love to sit down and create tangible designs with nothing but a ball of yarn. I also love to be creative in the kitchen. Creating my own recipes from scratch and watching my family's eyes light up after that first bite is amazing!
When do you feel like you are the most creative?
You know… I don’t think there’s ever a specific time. Inspiration strikes at different times for me. I feel very blessed to work from home, so that I can sit down and be creative whenever that inspiration strikes.
How has organization helped you? What prompted you to start using the WorkBox?
I used to be a complete mess when it came to my crafting supplies. I had all of my goodies strewn all across our house and I just knew that I had to do something to get a handle on it. Selling my husband on the idea of the WorkBox was probably the hardest part. But once it was here and all of my supplies had a home, he asked “Why didn’t we do this sooner?” It’s been a game-changer for sure.
Who do you look up to? Do you have any idols or icons that have inspired you?
Yes! I really look up to the creator of the Bullet Journal system, Ryder Carroll. I'm SO appreciative of his contribution to the planner world — it literally changed my life.
I also really admire Jake Weidmann - the world’s youngest Master Penman. His commitment to his art inspires me daily.
What's the best part of what you do?
I think the best part of what I do is inspiring others to be creative, live their best lives, and achieve their goals. There’s nothing I love more than making an impact in others’ lives, and I feel very blessed to be able to make a difference in the world every day - even if it’s just a little bit.
